The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, positively evaluated the decision of the Council of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the EU on August 31 to change the visa policy for citizens of Russia. Kuleba said this at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
"This decision needs to be considered dynamically. In the morning, at the beginning of the discussion of the EU ministers, the basic decision was only to suspend the agreement on the simplified issuance of visas to citizens of the Russian Federation. But as a result of difficult discussions... as a result of the exchange of views between the ministers of foreign affairs of the EU and me, a small a working group that significantly refined this decision. After all, a political agreement was reached yesterday on changes in the EU's visa policy towards Russia," Dmytro Kuleba said.
He noted that it is not only about the suspension of the agreement, but also about a number of other important steps.
"If yesterday's decision is properly and conscientiously implemented by all EU member states, then this decision will be as close as possible to what Ukraine wanted," the minister said.
According to him, the meeting also marked an important turning point in the EU's perception of Russian aggression.
