3 EU member states have stopped receiving Russian gas or receive it in limited quantities. This was announced on Thursday, September 1, by Metilda Versdorfer, deputy head of the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy, at a hearing in the European Parliament's energy committee.

"The situation remains quite critical. There is a risk of interruption (in the supply of gas - ed.), which is very strong and even increasing. Since half of the member states have already been fully or partially affected by disruptions. And as a result, 13 member states are partially or completely cut off from of Russian gas," Versdorfer said.

The EU official also reminded that since yesterday, August 31, "Nord Stream-1" has been undergoing maintenance for 3 days, "so there are no gas supplies from Russia to Germany and the rest of Europe" through this gas pipeline. "And we're also studying the impact of that," she added.

On Friday, Russia's Gazprom announced that supplies through the key Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, which runs through the bottom of the Baltic Sea to Germany, will be halted for three days from August 31 for repair work.

According to Gazprom, after the works are completed, 33 million cubic meters of gas per day will be pumped again, which is equivalent to 20% of the capacity.

Pipeline supplies have been halted or restricted since mid-July, with the Russians citing technical problems as the cause. Germany claims that this was a purely political move after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
