Great Britain will provide Ukraine with underwater drones and train Ukrainian personnel in Britain to use them to clear the coastline of mines. This is stated in the message of the British Ministry of Defense.
It is reported that six autonomous search machines will be sent to Ukraine to detect Russian mines in the waters near its coast. Three of these will be provided from UK warehouses and a further three will be purchased from industry.
The lightweight autonomous vehicle is designed for use in shallow coastal waters, effectively operating at depths of up to 100m to detect, locate and identify mines using a suite of sensors so that the Ukrainian Navy can destroy them.
In the coming months, dozens of servicemen of the Navy of Ukraine will learn how to use drones, the training has already begun.
"This vital equipment and training will help Ukraine make its waters safe, helping to restore the flow of grain to the rest of the world and supporting Ukraine's armed forces as they seek to protect their coasts and ports," British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said.
The British Ministry of Defense notes that attempts to export food continue to be hindered by sea mines left by Russian troops along the coast of Ukraine.
The three-week training course will be conducted by the Royal Navy's Diving and Threat Exploitation Group in conjunction with the US 6th Fleet. With extensive experience using the equipment, they will conduct training at sea to operate the vessels and interpret the data they send back to identify mine patterns.
