ISW analysts suggested that the new volunteer units of the Russian Federation may have the size of reinforced companies

In Russia, they continue to form new voluntary units for the war against Ukraine. Most "battalions" will likely be the size of reinforced companies.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts note that such special formations are not described as battalion-tactical groups and do not seem to be structured like BTGr.

"It is not clear how they will be used on the battlefield if they are not assembled with each other or with the remnants of already deployed BTGr," ISW said.

The Institute for the Study of War added that these "battalions" have nothing to do with the conventional combat power of the battalion-tactical groups that invaded Ukraine on February 24.

"After a series of reports in the media about the formation of the "Sobyansky Regiment" in Moscow, the recruitment was covered up, probably to avoid criticism," the experts concluded.

The representatives of the institute also emphasized that Ukrainian soldiers have already recaptured territory the size of Denmark from the Russians.

Analysts note that since the Russian Federation resumed its offensive after a pause on July 16, it has captured about 450.84 square kilometers of new territory, which is roughly the size of Andorra.

"Russian troops have lost approximately 45,000 square kilometers of territory since March 21 - an area larger than Denmark," ISW informed.

The Institute for the Study of War also added that the invaders are unable to convert limited tactical successes into broader operational successes, and their offensive operations in eastern Ukraine are reaching a climax.
