In the Czech Republic, there was an explosion at the country's largest oil refinery in Litvinov. Four people were injured as a result of the explosion.

After the explosion there was a fire at the refinery, which the firefighters managed to eliminate.

The cause of the explosion was a technical failure of the hydrocracking unit.

"We are investigating the extent of damage to the stopped unit. The refinery as a whole works," said a spokesman for Orlen Unipetrol.

One of the four victims of the overnight explosion had to be taken by helicopter to a hospital in Vinohrady, Prague. He was very seriously injured. Three of his colleagues were taken to the Prague hospital.

The police have opened an investigation into the crime of reckless endangerment to the public.
