People's deputy Oleksiy Kovalev, who is suspected of treason, was selected a preventive measure in the form of detention, said the DBR.
"At the request of the DBR, the people's deputy of Ukraine Alexei Kovalev was selected a preventive measure in the form of detention without an alternative to bail. The deputy is wanted," - said in the message.
The SBU recalled that the Prosecutor General, based on the evidence collected by the State Bureau of Investigation, informed him of the suspicion on July 6.
Employees of the DBI in April opened criminal proceedings against the people's deputy of Ukraine, who after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation is in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region and helps the occupation troops, noted the bureau.
During the investigation found that in early July this year, Oleksiy Kovalev took the post of deputy chairman in the illegally created by the occupation administration of the aggressor state - "the government of the Kherson region".
Also people's deputy on June 8 on his page in the social network posted a publication about the alleged integration into the aggressor country part of Ukraine in order to influence the public and manipulate consciousness, the DBI added.
The actions of the suspect are qualified under Part 2 of Article 111 (treason under martial law), Part 1 of Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (aiding and abetting the aggressor state).
He faces up to 15 years or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
