In 2022, Ukraine will not be able to receive Jewish pilgrims who traditionally arrive in September to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. This was reported on Facebook by the embassy in Israel.
It is reported that because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, foreign tourists will not be able to visit the country. Including pilgrims who annually come to Uman from Israel and around the world to the grave of Rabbi Nachman from Bratslav and other shrines.
"Because of fears for the lives and well-being of those coming to Ukraine and in light of the blatant Russian war in our country, despite all efforts, we cannot guarantee the pilgrims' safety and are currently not allowing tourists into Ukraine," Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgeniy Korniychuk addressed the orthodox media.
He also urged Orthodox Jews to pray that the war would end before Rosh Hashanah.
"We hope that prayers will be answered and that Ukraine will once again become a country that generously receives visitors from Israel, and especially Jews who come to visit the graves of the righteous," the ambassador added.
