We should potentially prepare for a new wave of COVID-19 - Lyashko

Ukraine should prepare for the next wave of COVID-19, which is evidenced by the increase in the incidence of the disease, predicts Health Minister Viktor Lyashko.

"For the last two months we have been recording an increase in the number of cases of coronavirus disease. In the past week there were 1,018 cases, the week before that there were 943 cases. We see an increase of 12%," he said at a briefing on Wednesday.

Lyashko noted that this increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in Ukraine corresponds to trends currently observed in European countries.

At the same time, the minister stressed that Ukraine has enough test systems to diagnose COVID-19, drugs to treat patients with coronavirus infection and covid vaccines.

"Drugs are distributed in warehouses on the territory of Ukraine in order to deliver them to medical institutions if necessary," he said.

The minister urged Ukrainians who have not completed the full course of vaccination against COVID-19 to take the missing vaccination - a second or booster dose.

He also pointed out that at present the number of hospitalizations for COVID-19 patients in Europe is not increasing against the background of increasing morbidity and linked this to the success of the vaccination campaign.
