U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland arrived in Ukraine on Tuesday, June 21, to meet with Attorney General Irina Venediktova to discuss war crimes in connection with the Russian invasion.
"Attorney General Merrick Garland visited Ukraine on an unannounced trip and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to helping identify, apprehend and prosecute those involved in war crimes and atrocities," a U.S. Department of Justice spokesman wrote on Twitter, posting video of Garland's meeting with the media.
The U.S. attorney general stressed that the criminals will not be able to hide.
"I am here to express the United States' unwavering support for the people of Ukraine in the midst of the unprovoked and unjust Russian invasion...The United States is sending an unmistakable message. There is nowhere to hide. We and our partners will use every means available to make sure that those responsible for these atrocities are held accountable," Garland told reporters.
