June 20 is the beginning of a historic week for Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in his video address.
"Tomorrow begins a truly historic week. The week when we will hear an answer from the European Union about the candidacy status for Ukraine. There is already a positive decision of the European Commission, and at the end of the new week there will be an answer from the European Council. I think it's obvious to everyone that since 1991 there have been few decisions as momentous for Ukraine as we are now expecting. And I am sure that only a positive decision is in the interests of all Europe," the head of state said.
Zelensky warned that in a week like this, we should expect increased hostile activity from Russia.
"Especially - tellingly. Exactly this week. And not only against Ukraine, but also against other countries in Europe. We are getting ready. We are ready. We warn our partners," he noted.
It should be noted that the European Commission recommends granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate. This was announced on Friday, June 17, during a press conference by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted an appeal to the member states of the European Union to support the granting of candidate status to Ukraine for EU membership.
