At a meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with the leaders of France, Italy, Germany and Romania on Thursday, it was said that only Ukraine itself can determine the time and terms of negotiations with the Russian Federation.
Foreign partners are interested in the most favorable negotiating position of Ukraine, said Zelensky's spokesman Sergei Nikiforov, writes UNN.
"On the contrary, yesterday at the meeting it was said that only Ukraine itself can determine when and on what terms to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia. Moreover, our partners have expressed interest in Ukraine being in the most advantageous negotiating position. That is why they will continue to support us defensively, economically and politically", the president's representative commented on the information circulated in the media that the leaders of France, Germany and Italy allegedly attempted to persuade Zelensky to resume talks with Russia.
Earlier, the media quoted the German newspaper Die Welt as saying that during his visit to Kiev on June 16, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and French President Emmanuel Macron probably tried behind closed doors to persuade Volodymyr Zelensky to start negotiations with Russia.
