De facto Ukraine is already part of the EU - Zelensky

Ukraine has de facto become part of the European Union. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this, speaking in the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg.

"Must show that European unity prevails any doubts about Europe's ability to defend its values. Ukraine is already de facto part of the European Union. We are already cooperating both bilaterally and at the EU level on a scale consistent with full membership. What can prove it better than the fact that we protect each other? - Zelensky said.

The president believes that Luxembourg, as one of the founders of a united Europe, will support first a candidacy for Ukraine and later membership in the European Union.

"I am sure that your specialists and companies will join the project of rebuilding Ukraine after the war. And it will be the largest economic project in Europe for our generation," Zelensky added.

In addition, Zelensky invited the Prime Minister of Luxembourg to Kyiv.

"Mr. Prime Minister! I invite you to visit our capital, Kiev, so that we can discuss in detail our further cooperation. We will be glad to hear your speech in our parliament, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, too," Zelensky said.

The French Foreign Ministry said that Ukraine's request to join the EU will be considered as early as June.
