Turkey has launched a new special operation on the Syrian border. Ankara wants to create a "security zone" 30 km deep. This was announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reports Anadolu.
According to him, Turkey begins a new stage of the fight against terrorism. The operation aims to "liberate" several areas near the southern border.
"A new phase of forming (in Syria) a "security zone" 30 kilometers deep from Turkey's border is starting. We are clearing Tal Rifat and Munbic from terrorists," Erdoğan said.
He added that other phases of mopping up the border areas would follow.
It is worth noting that Erdogan has already spoken of new Turkish military operations along its southern borders.
Ankara claims that its goal is to fight the terrorist organizations PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and YPG (People's Self-Defense Units, part of the "Democratic Forces of Syria" alliance).
