Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have had a telephone conversation. They discussed the situation in Ukraine.

In particular, the leaders discussed defense support for Ukraine. Zelensky also thanked Trudeau for Ottawa's decision to send Kiev more than 20,000 shells for the American M777 howitzers, which were previously supplied to the Ukrainian army by Western countries, including Canada.

In his evening video message, Zelensky also reported on the call.

"Talked about further political interaction and providing our state with the full amount of assistance, including financial assistance, which is so necessary to overcome the occupiers," the head of state added.

As a reminder, earlier it became known that on April 23 Canada sent to Ukraine M777 howitzers, shells for them, as well as armor-piercing shells for Carl Gustaf antitank guns. According to the Canadian government, this weaponry has already been handed over to the Ukrainian army.
