Berbok: Hunger is another weapon of Russia

The Russian Federation is at war against Ukraine not only with bombs and missiles. The threat of world hunger is no less deadly weapon. This was stated by the head of the German Foreign Ministry, Annalena Berbock, at a meeting of foreign ministers of the "G7" countries in New York. Berbock accused Russia of fomenting a global crisis, ZDF reported.

"By blockading Ukrainian ports, destroying grain elevators, roads and railroads and especially farmers' fields, Russia has started a grain war that is fueling the global food crisis," Berbock stressed.

The official added that Russia is waging war not only with tanks, missiles and bombs.

"Russia is waging this war with other terrible but quieter weapons: hunger and deprivation," the diplomat added.

According to UN estimates, about 25 million tons of grain are stuck in Ukraine because of the war, which has already triggered global price increases.

President Volodymyr Zelensky is convinced that the sooner Ukraine is freed from Russian troops, the sooner the threat of starvation in poor countries will disappear.
