Russian Foreign Ministry declares that Ukraine's accession would be the end of the EU

The Russian Foreign Ministry has said that if the EU approves the start of the procedure for Ukraine's accession to the EU, it will mean the end of unification and will show that it is guided purely by geopolitics.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said this, state-run Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.

"If the European Union really takes over this state, where Nazi groups rule and Nazi ideology, which is not compatible with European values, it will mean the end of the European Union, and will show that the EU is not guided by some values on which it stands and on the platform of which it was founded," said RIA Novosti. It's purely geopolitical," Grushko said.

Earlier, the Kremlin said that it is now against Ukraine's accession not only to NATO, but also to the EU.

"In the beginning we were not very worried about the EU. But the situation changed after Borrell's statement that the fate of this war should be decided on the battlefield, and because of the fact that the EU is the leader in supplying weapons to Ukraine. So I think our position on the EU is now similar to the position on Ukraine's accession to NATO, because we see no difference," said First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky.
