Britain reacts to Russia's escalating statements by expelling Russian embassy attache

The UK has announced that it is expelling the Russian Embassy's defense attache. Also, the UK wants to deprive some objects of diplomatic status and limit the validity period of Russian diplomatic visas, Reuters reports.

British Interior Minister James Cleverly said that such a decision is “a consequence of Russia's aggressive activities not only in Britain but throughout Europe.”

“We will expel the Russian defense attache, who is an undeclared military intelligence officer... We will remove the status of diplomatic premises from several properties in the UK linked to Russia... We are introducing new restrictions on Russian diplomatic visas, including limiting the length of stay of Russian diplomats in Britain,” Cleverly said.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that it considers Great Britain “a party to the conflict” and that Russia will strike at British military facilities and equipment both in Ukraine and abroad. The reason for this statement was an interview with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron to Reuters, in which he said that Ukraine could use British weapons to strike at Russian territory.
