Russia's behavior in Ukraine and abroad poses the greatest threat to global stability. This statement was made today by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, CNN reported.
Russia "is today the most direct threat to the world order because of its barbaric war against Ukraine and its alarming pact with China, as well as their call for a new and very arbitrary international relationship," von der Leyen told the media after talks with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo.
European Council President Charles Michel and von der Leyen are in Tokyo for the 28th EU-Japan summit, whose agenda included their support for Ukraine.
"Our cooperation in Ukraine is crucial in Europe, but it is also important in the Pacific, and we also want to deepen our consultation on a more persistent China. We believe that China should stand up for the multilateral system from which it has benefited in the development of its country," Michel told reporters.
Michel also said that "those responsible for war crimes must be held accountable."
"Russia's aggression against Ukraine strikes at the very foundation of the entire international order, not only for Europe but also for Asia, and it cannot be tolerated," Kishida told reporters in turn.
