NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made a statement that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Alliance has not noticed any changes in Russia's nuclear strategy.

The official said this in an interview with Welt.

"We hear the threatening nuclear rhetoric of the Russian leadership. This is irresponsible and ill-considered. Nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought, including in Russia. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine on February 24, NATO has not experienced any change in Russia's nuclear strategy," Stoltenberg said.

"No, we don't have any indication of that," he said when asked if the level of readiness of Russian nuclear forces had changed.

He stressed that NATO has the right to help Ukraine, which in turn has the right to defend itself.

"Our task is to minimize this risk (the use of nuclear weapons - ed.). NATO is the strongest alliance in the world. And our message is clear: if nuclear weapons were used, all sides would only be defeated," Stoltenberg said.
