Putin should not win this war and he will not win it - Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a statement about the inadmissibility of Putin winning the war because it would cause international arbitrariness.

The official made this statement at a public event in Hamburg on May 6, Bild reported.

Russia's aggressive war in Ukraine, according to Scholz, is exceptional.

"Russia's aggression against Ukraine is the greatest disaster of our time. The world after this aggressive and exterminating war will no longer be the same. It no longer exists," the chancellor noted.

Russia's brutal aggressive and destructive war marks "a radical break with the European peace order at the end of the Cold War," Scholz said.

The speaker also noted that "many smart heads" would have found such an escalation impossible because of close international ties after 1989.

"From a rational point of view, the close interdependence of national economies has long made armed conflicts so expensive that no party should think of resorting to this method.

But any rational logic of costs and benefits breaks down when irrational actors, through ideological blindness, throw the idea of cooperation to the wind.

Putin's imperialist and revanchist ideology of Russian power and grandeur weighed more for the Russian president than the well-being of his own people," the official noted.

Scholz once again recalled the federal government's solidarity with Ukraine.

"We give Ukraine all the support we can, and at the same time we take responsibility.

Putin must not win this criminal war of aggression against Ukraine - and he will not win this war. If Putin gets away with it, there is a risk of international arbitrariness. For this reason alone, Russia must not prevail," summarized the German chancellor.
