Resistance of Ukrainians at Azovstal disrupts Russia's operational plans in southern Donbas - British intelligence

The resistance of Azovstal defenders continues. Due to this, Russian losses are increasing and their plans in the south of Donbas are disrupted.

This is reported in the daily intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense.

Russian troops in Mariupol, despite Russian claims that they would only block it, continue their ground assault on the Azovstal steel plant for the second day, British intelligence reports.

"Russia's renewed efforts to secure Azovstal and complete the seizure of Mariupol are likely related to the upcoming May 9 Victory Day celebrations and Putin's desire for symbolic success in Ukraine," the review reported.

"These efforts cost Russia personnel, equipment and ammunition. As long as Ukrainian resistance continues at Azovstal, Russian casualties will continue to pile up and disrupt their operational plans in southern Donbas," the intelligence agency states.

Morning reports from the General Staff reported that the Russians in Mariupol continue to blockade Defense Forces units near Azovstal. In some areas, they are again storming with air support to seize the plant.
