In Putin's imagination his army is the most powerful, but in Russia they only hear about its "heroism" on TV - Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he could describe the Russian army better than the people of Russia, because they had only heard about its "power" and "heroism" on television, and in the war against Ukraine these statements were not confirmed. He said this during a Wall Street Journal CEO Council Summit session, adding that Russia's portrayal of their modern army is completely inadequate.

"I understand that in the representation of the Russian population, their army is the most powerful in the world because of their informational internal policies. So does the Russian leader's perception that they have the most powerful army. It seems to me that I can describe their army better than they can, therefore, that on our territory they fought, and on their territory they only heard about these 'heroic' deeds on TV," Zelensky said.

The president noted that Russia does have a lot of equipment, and they don't spare their people.

"They really did, by tens of thousands of people, just kicked out like cattle so that we, defending ourselves, would kill them. They took our lives, we took their lives. Absolutely rightly and with every right to do so. We understand that their army just by the number of people, they just want to drown us in the blood of their military," Zelensky said.

He also said that Russia's idea of their modern army is completely inadequate.

But they can't tell their society that they have lost to our unification and lost to our modernity, their army was not prepared for that. Yes, they can destroy us completely with missiles, burn us, but in terms of military tactics they could not and will not be able to take us," Zelensky said.

The president added that it is better for the Russian authorities to tell their people that they are fighting "the collective West" than to admit defeat in Ukraine.

"So, of course, it is better to say that Russia is fighting a united event and therefore it is not so easy, and therefore it was not so easy to capture Kiev in 5 days, as they guaranteed, but this is an excuse. The fact remains that we fight and we know how to fight, because we have a war on our territory for 8 years, and they have heard only on TV that they are great warriors. We are not proud that we can repulse Russia, we are just proud of our people", - said Zelensky.
