A draft resolution has been submitted to the US Congress which would authorize the use of the US military to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine in case of an escalation of military actions on the part of Moscow.
Republican Senator Adam Kisinger explained that the document, if adopted, would give the U.S. president the right to deploy troops if Russia uses chemical, biological or nuclear weapons against Ukraine, the UNIAN news agency reported.
"Words are important, but our actions are just as important. I present this AUMF (Authorization for Use of Military Forces) as a clear red line so that the president of the United States can take appropriate action if Russia uses chemical, biological and/or nuclear weapons. We have to stand up for humanity and we have to stand with our allies," Kisinger said.
The congressman recalled the concerns about Russia's use of chemical weapons raised by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and pledged "not to tolerate senseless violence.
