On May 9, Russia may declare the "annexation" of Donbas - Ministry of Defense

Russia must provide its population with certain "victories" in the country for May 9, and if there are no such "victories," it will invent them. Ukrainian Defense Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanik said this at a briefing on Monday.

"As for what the Russian Federation will do on May 9 - anything. Russia needs to sell the victories in some way to Russian society. I don't see that as a problem for Russia. If there are no victories, it will invent them," said Motuzyanik. ," Motuzyanik noted.

"There is such a good thing as television in the Russian Federation. That is, Russia can do nothing at all, just show it on TV. Any propaganda goes in, fertile ground among the Russian population it will get," the speaker added.

As for the "victories" that Russia can give to its population with regard to Ukraine, Motuzyanik suggested that the occupants can claim the alleged destruction of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine, the destruction of the air defense system - "what Russia is voicing today through the mouth of the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense."

According to him, they can also report on those cities, towns and settlements that are under the temporary control of the armed forces of the Russian Federation as of today.

"Russia is an unpredictable country, it can come up with anything. It is possible that it will raise the issue of accepting certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions as part of the Russian Federation - they may already report this. They may report that they are preparing to hold a referendum in Kherson Oblast to recognize certain territories as Russian as well, i.e. anything," Motuzyanik added.
