More than half of Finland's MPs are in favor of joining NATO. But it is not yet known whether a majority or two-thirds support is needed.

This is reported by Yle.

It is reported that today 114 MPs out of 200 are in favor of joining NATO. And this is the minimum number, because many of them have not yet voiced their position on the issue. On the other hand, there are only 11 opponents of North Atlantic integration.

According to Yle's calculations, when all the MPs have voiced their position, there will be 166 votes in favor of membership in the alliance. So far the biggest doubts have been registered among the leftists. Of the 16 members, eight were against it, two were for it, and ten were still thinking.

According to the newspaper, it is still unclear whether the decision to join NATO requires the support of a simple majority or two-thirds of the parliament. Finland expects to decide on the issue of accession by summer.

Earlier it was reported that Finland could apply for NATO membership in the coming weeks.
