The lack of consensus among European Union countries on the embargo on Russian oil and gas supplies raises doubts about the seriousness of further sanctions against Moscow. This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell in an interview with journalists of the European alliance, Le Figaro reported.

According to the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, there are no specific proposals on the prohibition of Russian energy resources. Despite a lot of different reasoning, there is no unity.

"The European Council has not given instructions to impose a tax or a ban on imports. There are some member states-you know which ones-have clearly stated that they will veto it. In this case, whether we like it or not, a unanimous decision cannot be made," Borrell said.

As the media specifies, the embargo is supported, in particular, by Poland and France, while Germany, Austria and Hungary are against it. Borrell stressed that in the medium term, the EU countries will have to give up Russian energy resources, because this is an important stage in the creation of the European autonomy.
