Johnson: negotiating with Putin is like negotiating with a crocodile

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that any peace talks on Ukraine are likely to fail, amid how he compared negotiations with Russian President Putin to negotiating with a crocodile, Reuters reported.

Johnson said dealing with Putin is like a situation with "a crocodile when it's clawing at your leg," and said it was vital that the West continue to arm Ukraine.

"How can you negotiate with a crocodile when it has a foot in its jaws? That's the difficulty the Ukrainians face. You just have to continue the strategy, continue to supply them with weapons," he said.

"It's very difficult to see how the Ukrainians can negotiate with Putin now, given his apparent lack of integrity. His strategy, which is obvious, is to try to absorb and take over as much of Ukraine as possible and maybe do some negotiations from a position of strength," Johnson said.

He said that world leaders, particularly U.S. President Joe Biden, agreed to the call this week that they would continue to supply Ukraine with weapons, particularly artillery, as Russia intensifies its attacks in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine and Russia have not negotiated with a physical presence since March 29, and the situation escalated with the revelation of atrocities in Bucha after the Russian military withdrew from there.
