Minister for Northern Ireland Brandon Lewis has not confirmed that Britain is working on the exchange of Viktor Medvedchuk for two prisoners of war. He said that the British government would not help Russia.
This was reported by CNN.
According to him, the British military arrived to the war in Ukraine illegally. It was not an official British mission.
At the same time, the minister added that the government is not considering the exchange of captured soldiers for detained MP Viktor Medvedchuk.
"In fact, we are going through the process of imposing sanctions against people close to the Putin regime. Let's not think about how we can help Russia... We have to find the right balance with Ukraine, so I say to everyone, don't travel illegally to Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have the support of the United Kingdom. We continue to give that support, and this is the right way to do it," Lewis said.
We recall that Medvedchuk asked Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin to organize his exchange for the defenders of Mariupol.
Additionally, Russian media showed an appeal from British prisoners who asked to exchange them for Medvedchuk.
