Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on economic issues on Monday, April 18, that Russia has withstood the unprecedented pressure of sanctions from the West, reports Korrespondent.
According to him, the situation in Russia's economy is stabilizing and the ruble exchange rate is returning to the levels of early 2022.
"The calculation was to quickly undermine the financial and economic situation in our country, provoke panic in the markets, the collapse of the banking system, a large-scale shortage of goods in stores. But we can already say with certainty that this policy with regard to Russia has failed, the economic blitzkrieg strategy has failed. Moreover, the sanctions were not in vain for the initiators themselves. I mean the rise in inflation and unemployment, the deterioration of economic dynamics in the United States and European countries, the decline in the standard of living of Europeans, the devaluation of their savings. As I said, Russia has withstood this unprecedented pressure. The situation is stabilizing, the ruble exchange rate has returned to the levels of the first half of February and is determined by an objectively strong balance of payments. The current account surplus in the first quarter exceeded $58 billion, and this is a historic high," Putin said.
He also instructed to accelerate the transition of Russian foreign trade to rubles and national currencies of other countries.
