Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky handed over to the head of the European Union representation in Ukraine Matti Maasikas a completed questionnaire for the Ukrainian state to obtain candidate status for EU membership, the press service of the head of state reported.

"We understand that this is a formal step of Ukraine on the way to the European Union. We understand that our people internally, mentally, mentally have been in Europe for a long time. Nevertheless, every country goes this way. Unfortunately, we are going through this tragic period. A lot of people with European mentality are losing the most precious thing - life. Nevertheless, the people of Ukraine are united by this goal - to feel themselves as an equal part of Europe", - said Zelensky at the ceremony of handing over the questionnaire.

Usually, he said, the questionnaire procedure takes years to prepare.

"I want to thank you for the speed, for being able to go through this procedure in weeks or a couple of months. We believe that we will get support for this work, become a candidate, and then the next final phase will begin. We believe that this procedure will take place in the coming weeks," said the head of state.

Maasikas, in turn, said that Ukraine's answers in the questionnaire will be analyzed very quickly.
