The deputy head of OPU and President Zelensky's diplomatic adviser in charge of European integration, Ihor Zhovkva, claims that Kiev has not received any signals from Budapest about Viktor Orban's intention to block Ukraine's movement to the EU.
He said this in an interview with the Ukrainian media.
"There were no signals to contain (Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU), so, accordingly, we do not expect that there will be any deconstruction," the official explained.
Zhovkva recalled that in the recent past, when Budapest blocked Ukraine's dialogue with NATO, there was no such blocking by the EU, contrary to the rhetoric heard from Hungarian officials.
"Therefore, I would not say that Hungary is now going to block anything on the European track for Ukraine. At least, we do not observe such signs and we hope that there will be no such thing," he said.
Ihor Zhovkva also said that he held a meeting with the leadership of Hungarian organizations in Ukraine and they supported Ukraine's movement towards EU membership.
At the same time, the Bankova Party is dissatisfied with the position of the Orban government on other issues, first of all, concerning deterrence of Russian aggression.
"The rhetoric heard before the elections in Hungary was generally unacceptable. This is no way to talk to a neighboring country, which is moreover at war and defends not only itself, but also Hungary itself and the whole of Europe. Unfortunately, the rhetoric did not change significantly after the elections," he said.
The OPU representative, however, thanked Hungary for helping refugees from Ukraine.
