Turkey will not allow Russian ships into the Black Sea until the end of the war

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has assured that Russian warships will not enter the Black Sea while there is a war in Ukraine. This was reported by TRHaber.

Turkish authorities will not retreat from the position on the passage of Russian ships to the Black Sea. Turkey controls the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits, which connect the Black Sea to the Aegean Sea and the Marmara Sea.

"We will comply with the Montreux Convention. We will not allow warships to the Black Sea," said the head of the Defense Ministry.

The Montreux Convention on the Status of the Straits was adopted in 1936. It restored Turkish sovereignty over the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles. Ankara has the right to open and close the passage of warships there.
