Ukraine may receive the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union as early as June 2022. But the decision should be taken unanimously. The head of the EU mission Matti Maasikasa told the Postimees.
"Now we are talking about weeks, not months. I think getting the status will happen in June," he said.
According to him, EU member states must find out if Ukraine meets the Copenhagen criteria.
"There's no point in speculating now what that assessment will be...I also can't predict what member states will say on this issue. Anything to do with European Union enlargement requires unanimity. This decision would be a huge step," Maasikas added.
