In Bucha, the exhumation of bodies from a mass temporary burial site near a local church began on Friday, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova said.
"There is a large grave near the church - communal workers buried in it victims of war crimes - those who died after shelling and murders. There are about 67 bodies here. Each one is examined by forensic experts, criminalists, investigators and prosecutors. Of those who have been taken out, in the majority there are gunshot and shrapnel wounds from the explosions, some have only fragments left," wrote the prosecutor general on Facebook.
She specified that some of the dead were with documents, while the rest will have to be recognized by relatives by clothing or other signs and identified by DNA.
"Next is painstaking work to establish the circumstances of everyone's death. We already have witnesses to how these civilians were killed by the Rascists for simply going to get bread or medicine, speaking Ukrainian, helping volunteers or the army. Bucha was one of the firing ranges of the so-called 'denazification,' or, more simply, extermination of Ukrainians," Venediktova stressed.
The Prosecutor General added that Ukrainian law enforcers already have 100 pages of data of Russian military personnel - occupants of Bucha.
"Our task-maximum is to identify everyone who pulled the trigger and gave orders to kill Ukrainians en masse, to use torture and rape as weapons," Venediktova concluded.
