The Russian Federation will not be able to sell the timber felled in Ukraine - Ministry of Ecology

The Russian Federation will not be able to sell timber that it plans to cut down or has already cut down in Ukraine. This was stated by Acting Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets during a telethon.

As Strelets noted, he does not know whether the information about the intention of Russian troops to cut down wood in Ukraine is reliable, but in any case, Russia will not be able to sell this timber.

"Even if they did cut down some wood, they just didn't sell it anywhere," Strelets stressed.

According to him, March 8, the international authority for timber certification - Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ceased cooperation with Russia and Belarus. "We need FSC certificates to export timber.

Therefore, neither Russia nor Belarus can legally sell timber to other countries.

He also added that the ministry asked the European Commission to monitor the attempts of invaders to circumvent this ban and prevent Russia to export timber through third countries or by fake documents.

It was previously reported that Putin and Shoygu were planning to cut down and sell Ukrainian timber.
