UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay condemned the murder of photographer and videographer Maksim Levin, whose body was found in a village near Kyiv on April 2.
"I condemn the murder of Maksim Levin," said the UNESCO Director-General. "I strongly call for the protection of all members of the media who work tirelessly to keep the world informed about the situation on the ground. Photojournalists are first-hand witnesses to war and their images can be a powerful antidote to disinformation," said Audrey Azoulay.
Recall that Max Levin went missing on March 13. It is known that on April 1, after a long search near the village of Guta Mezhigorskaya in the Kiev region, the police found him dead.
He worked as a photojournalist, documentary photographer and cameraman for many Ukrainian and international publications.
Maxim collaborated with Reuters, BBC, TRT World, Associated Press, and Hromadske. His photos have been published by Wall Street Journal, TIME, Breaking news Poland, EU AGENDA, World news, The Moscow Time, Korrespondent.net, ELLE, TV-24, Radio Bulgaria, Ukraine Crisis Media center, Vatican news, Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).
In addition to his journalistic work, he has created dozens of photo and video projects for humanitarian organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UN, UNICEF, OSCE, UN Woman.
In March, UNESCO announced new measures to protect journalists in Ukraine, including the provision of protective equipment and accelerated training, especially for those who have no experience of working in conflict zones.
It should be noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyrr Zelensky posthumously awarded the photojournalist the Order "For Courage.
