IMF: Russia and Ukraine war Russia's invasion of Ukraine could, among other things, cause destabilization in the Middle East due to food problems, reports Economic Pravda.

This was stated by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva at the forum in Doha (Qatar).

According to the IMF head, the impact on the global economy of the war and sanctions imposed on Russia due to the invasion could provoke prerequisites for a new "Arab Spring" in the Middle Eastern countries.

"When prices go up and poor people cannot feed their families, they will take to the streets," she said.

Gueorguieva urged the global community to coordinate efforts to prevent food and energy shortages and corresponding price increases.

The IMF Managing Director also stressed that the fighting in Ukraine must stop as soon as possible so that the country can supply grain to the world market.

"The sooner the tanks are gone, the sooner the tractors will come. We need to have a harvest in Ukraine by July to ensure the stability of food prices," Georgieva said.
