Russians are destroying Mariupol to keep Ukrainians in fear - mayor

The Russian military is killing civilians, bombing and destroying Ukrainian cities so that people are afraid of the Russian army.

Vadim Boychenko, the mayor of Mariupol, said this.

"When I was moving with the convoy from Berdyansk to Mariupol, I asked a Russian army officer a question: 'Why did you do this to Mariupol?' The answer was cynical, very harsh and scary: "You should be afraid of the Russian army!" So, we are not afraid of the Russian army, our soldiers are not afraid, because we are on our soil, and the victory is really on our side today," Boychenko said.

The mayor emphasized that the most important task is to save more residents of the city.

Now only one corridor - Berdyansk-Mariupol - works to exit the city. At the same time, refugee cars are caught in a multi-kilometer traffic jam near Vasilievka because of the in-depth review of the Russian aggressor at checkpoints. In these traffic jams are also ambulances with wounded children.

The mayor notes that a sustainable "green corridor" is needed for at least a week or two to get all the people asking for it out of Mariupol.
