By the end of 2022, Germany expects to almost completely abandon Russian energy resources - with the exception of gas. According to Deutsche Welle, this was announced by Economy Minister Robert Habek.Habek noted that significant progress is expected in this matter in the near future.
At the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, about 50 percent of Germany's coal imports, 55 percent of its gas imports and 35 percent of its oil imports came from Russia.
"By the middle of the year, we expect to halve Russian oil imports to Germany. By the end of the year, our goal is to be fully independent," the Ministry of Economics said in a document.
It also talks about giving up Russian coal by the end of the fall.
Robert Habek confirmed that the existing contracts with Russia for the supply of energy resources will not be renewed. At the same time, he admitted that it would be possible to abandon Russian gas no sooner than 2024.
