Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to urgently switch to ruble payments for gas supplies to Europe. According to him, settlements in dollars, euros and other currencies have lost all sense because of the sanctions.
"The U.S. and the EU have, in principle, defaulted on their obligations to Russia. And now everyone in the world knows that obligations in dollars and euros may not be fulfilled. It is quite obvious that in this connection it no longer makes any sense for us to supply our goods to the European Union and the United States and to receive payment in dollars, euros and a number of other currencies. That is why I have decided to implement a set of measures to transfer payment for our natural gas supplied to the so-called unfriendly countries into Russian rubles as soon as possible," Putin said.
