Bomb shelter survived: Ombudsman reports that adults with children are coming out from under the rubble of the Drama Theater in Mariupol

In Mariupol the release of civilians from under the rubble of the Drama Theater, on which the occupants yesterday dropped a bomb, has begun - living adults and children are coming out of there. This was reported by the VR Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.

"In Mariupol started the release of civilians from the rubble of the drama theater. The building withstood the impact of a super-powerful aerial bomb and protected the lives of people who were hiding in a bomb shelter," Denisova said.

Work now continues to unblock the basement, she said.

"There are living adults and children coming out of there. So far there is no information about the dead or wounded under the rubble of the theater," added the Ombudsman.

"The airstrike on this building, which is marked on all sides with the words 'children,' is an act of genocide and a terrible crime against humanity as defined by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The punishment for the Rascist troops and the leadership of the terrorist state will be inevitable and cruel," stressed the Ombudsman.

Recall that Russian occupation troops the day before dropped a heavy-duty bomb on the Mariupol Drama Theater. People were hiding there at the time. It is estimated that we are talking about a thousand Mariupol civilians. Many Mariupol residents were hiding in the theater with young children.

The speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko said that by launching a targeted bombing attack on a place of mass concentration of civilians, Russia committed another war crime. Ukrainian diplomats will do their best to ensure that every person involved in this and hundreds of other crimes against Ukrainians will be punished, the Foreign Ministry said.
