Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba spoke about the security guarantees that are necessary for Ukraine. According to him, it should be a system similar to that of NATO.
Kuleba commented on NATO's actions against Ukraine during the Russian military aggression.
"It is part of our policy to join NATO as a full member and receive security guarantees under the North Atlantic Treaty. But this will not happen in the blink of an eye or in the foreseeable future. We see from NATO's reaction as an Alliance to Russian aggression against Ukraine that NATO is not prepared to act collectively, to stop the war and protect civilians from Russian bombing. The Alliance has delegated this to its member states," he said at the briefing.
The foreign minister added that Ukraine needs security guarantees, as in NATO, which would constitute an entire system provided by the permanent members of the UN Security Council, Turkey and all neighboring countries.
"So the question arises: how to ensure Ukraine's security between now and joining NATO? If we can reach an agreement where there will be a similar system of security guarantees for Ukraine, as in the North Atlantic Treaty, which will be provided by the permanent members of the UN Security Council, Turkey, all our neighbors - this is something that we are ready to discuss, in this idea," the minister stressed.
