The Kremlin has started talking about a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, this issue was discussed by the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Russia in Antalya.
"Kiev constantly comes out with proposals for direct talks between Putin and Zelensky, now this issue is being discussed by the foreign ministers," said the spokesman for the Russian president.
A trilateral meeting involving Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was held in Turkey's Antalya. The main topic of the talks was stopping Russia's war against Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president's office, represented by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, has suggested several times that Putin hold direct talks to end the war.
The night before Russia invaded Ukraine, Zelensky said he called Putin, but heard silence in response.
After Russia's open invasion of Ukraine, Zelensky repeatedly urged Putin to sit down at the negotiating table.
Garant noted that the Russian leader was capable of stopping the war he had started on Ukrainian soil.
However, the Kremlin rejected direct talks between Zelensky and Putin, stating that "now it is the turn of the delegations to negotiate."
