Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausseda, during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, expressed the opinion that if the West wants to avoid World War III, it is important to provide all possible support to Ukraine.
This was reported by LRT and Reuters.
The conversation with Blinken was about long-term U.S. support plans for Lithuania.
Gitanas Nauseda stressed that Russia's unwarranted armed aggression against Ukraine undermines peace throughout Europe and should be stopped by the collective efforts of the West.
"We must help Ukraine in every possible way ... I mean literally 'everything' - if we want to avoid World War III. The choice is ours," said Nauseda.
He added that now the containment strategy is no longer enough and Russia's neighbors should seriously prepare to defend themselves, in particular it is necessary to strengthen the defense and air defense systems in the Baltic states. The president also expressed his readiness to accept additional U.S. military personnel on a rotational basis and to provide all necessary support for this.
