The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution on "Aggression against Ukraine" condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine and demanding that Russia immediately withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory, Ukrinform has reported.
The decision was adopted by an unprecedented number of votes to applause - 141 countries voted in favor, 5 voted against, and 35 abstained. Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea and Syria voted against it.
The UN General Assembly condemns the Russian Federation's February 24, 2022 decision on a "special military operation" in Ukraine, expresses serious concern about reports of attacks on civilian targets such as homes, schools and hospitals, as well as civilian casualties, including women, elderly, disabled and children.
"The Russian Federation's military actions on the sovereign territory of Ukraine are on a scale that the international community has not seen in Europe in decades," the text of the resolution reads.
"Urgent action is needed to save this generation from the untimeliness of war," the resolution says.

The resolution requires the Russian Federation to immediately cease the use of force against Ukraine and to refrain from further unlawful threat or use of force against any member state. Also demands that the Russian Federation immediately, fully and unconditionally withdraw all of its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, and immediately and unconditionally revoke the decision on the status of certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.The General Assembly demands facilitating rapid, safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid to those in need in Ukraine in order to protect civilians.
It also urges the immediate peaceful resolution of the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine through political dialogue, negotiations, mediation, and other peaceful means.
The General Assembly calls for continued efforts by the UN Secretary General, member states, the OSCE and other international and regional organizations to maintain de-escalation, as well as efforts to respond to the humanitarian and refugee crisis caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation.
The resolution was sponsored by UN Security Council members the U.S. and Albania, and was co-sponsored by about a hundred other countries.
