Hungary confirmed the ban on even the transit of weapons for Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has reiterated that Hungary has no plans to help Ukraine with weapons and will not allow the transit of military aid from other allies through its territory. He said this after a government meeting on March 2.

"We confirmed Hungary's decision not to send troops or weapons to Ukraine. We also confirmed that Hungary will not allow the transit of weapons to Ukraine through its territory," Orban said.

He noted that the first priority remains "the life and security of the Hungarian people," including the Hungarians of Transcarpathia.

"We cannot and will not make any decisions that might provoke someone to target settlements or people in Hungary, or the Hungarians and Ukrainians of Transcarpathia. It is extremely important for Hungary to stay out of this war. At the same time Ukraine is our friend, it is in trouble, and those who are in trouble should be helped," Orban said.

Hungary's prime minister said the country has launched "one of the largest humanitarian operations in history."

"To begin with, we are sending food, hygiene products and children's goods worth 600 million forints (1.58 million euros)," Orban added.
