A unified crisis management center for assistance to refugees from Ukraine has begun operating in Moldova, Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita said at a Monday briefing.
"On Monday, a central warehouse became operational, where all aid collected for refugees will be stored and sorted. On Tuesday, March 1, the first shipment of humanitarian aid (basic necessities) for refugees from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees will arrive in the country," she said.
Donations from citizens are being accepted, the premier said. "At the moment, mainly cots, mattresses, bedding, dishes, toys and personal hygiene products are needed," she said.
From February 24 to 28, 71,359 citizens of Ukraine entered Moldova, of which 33,173 went onward. As of Monday morning, there were 38,186 Ukrainian citizens on Moldovan territory.
On February 24, a state of emergency was imposed in Moldova for 60 days.
