The U.S. is considering imposing additional sanctions on Russia in the event that Russian troops enter Kiev, CNN reported Saturday, citing an unnamed U.S. administration official.
"It is unclear whether these sanctions will involve disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT system, or whether it could happen sooner," the report said.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Joe Biden said America's partners in Europe are against disconnecting Russia from SWIFT for now, but the issue is always on the table. "That option is always there, but right now it's not a measure that Europe wants to take," Biden said Feb. 24.
Speaking about U.S. restrictive measures against Russia, Biden said Washington intends to prepare for further sanctions as well. "And we are prepared to do more," the U.S. president added.
