White House opposes the idea of immediate sanctions against Nord Stream 2

The U.S. administration does not support the idea of some congressmen to immediately impose additional sanctions against Nord Stream 2, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Tuesday.

"We have a disagreement with some congressmen who think you can get the effect you want if you impose sanctions on Nord Stream 2 right now. We don't agree with that," she said at the briefing.

Psaki said the U.S. administration believes it can use the subject of Nord Stream 2 to put pressure on Russia.

"It's leverage for pressure," she said.
