Ukraine introduced martial law

The Verkhovna Rada has introduced martial law in Ukraine. The decision was supported by 300 people's deputies.

Martial law is a special mode of operation of the country, which is introduced in case of a threat to national security, territorial integrity or military aggression.

While martial law is in effect, state and local authorities and military commanders are given additional powers in order to stabilize the situation as soon as possible. At the same time, many of the rights and freedoms of citizens may be restricted.

The law on the legal regime of martial law prescribes possible restrictions for citizens of Ukraine during martial law. Among them:

compulsory labor duty,

alienation of personal property,

restriction of movement of citizens, vehicles,

curfew,

a ban on trade in weapons, alcohol and chemicals,

prohibition of mass events, rallies and strikes,

Control over the work of television and radio centers and the mass media,

Restrictions on the use of means of communication, including the Internet,

A ban on the activities of parties and social organizations that pose a threat to the country's independence, its territorial integrity, undermine security and propagate war

prohibition for persons liable for military service to change their place of residence.

However, not all of these measures can be applied in their entirety. The list of specific restrictions and bans is prescribed in the presidential decree.

The decree of the head of state must specify the justification, terms and territorial boundaries of martial law.

The martial law regime may end before the deadline, for which it is sufficient for the head of state to issue a corresponding decree.
